The Village Special Edition (2004) Blu-ray

This is an honest review of this release in particular. The product is excellent, a nice case and high quality art insert printed in nice thick photo paper. The menu looks like the same ones used throughout the showtown Blu-rays. Tons of special features, chapter selection, audio and language and I’m happy with that. Playability is 100% as well, I have no problems with loading at all nor do I get any pixelating in the image, no artifacts either which makes me suspect the source is actually a legit one I believe which leads me to the video quality. I am quite pleased this but honestly is a bit different from a commercially available Blu-ray in terms of sharpness, fine detail and color grading from the dvd. Since there isn’t an official Blu-ray release it is definitely a very good upgrade from the dvd (I watched the dvd not long at all before buying this Blu-ray). While I don’t know what the actual source for the transfer is, whether it be the actual film or something else it’s better looking than the dvd and I highly recommend it as a great alternative until we get a new 4k release.

M. Night Shyamalan's movie making career started with such a phenomenal bang with the superb and highly successful 'The Sixth Sense'... that everything he directed after was unfairly judged against that brilliant debut. Some of his movies are undoubtedly better than others. 'The Village' (with it's all star cast) is a good (but slightly flawed movie). It certainly has some very suspenseful moments and the acting is superb. BUT what is not in doubt... is yet another GREAT transfer by ShowTown! Well done guys. It looks spectacular and there are LOADS of great supplements and extras on here too. The film may divide opinion, but this is a great release! Thank you ShowTown!
