Probably the best we'll see
This is Kurosawa's directorial debut. The movie isn't great, but there are moments where you can see the young director spreading his wings and learning to fly. The movie was cut to ribbons by censorship back in the day, and no uncut version has been found. The transfer is rough, but beautiful in its own way. This is probably because the original film materials are degraded. I think showtownapparel has given us the best presentation, given the circumstances!
