The HiDef Edition of Toys I'd Been Waiting For!

Posted by Phillip Smith on Apr 15th 2024

I was so incredibly happy to discover that this website had a Blu-ray of my all-time favorite Robin Williams film Toys available! It was a film of his that I had grown up watching endless amounts of times on VHS and having received the original soundtrack cassette too as a Hanukkah, eventually upgrading to the CD. When I was a freshman in college I finally got the DVD of the film thinking that nothing could possibly top this release. For a very long time for some unknown reason a high definition or Blu-ray release of Toys never got developed. Why this title? So much of Robin Williams' work has been released on a digital format even those of which many have critiqued as very bad box office performing films. Toys is no exception, while many felt that it was a bad film, it wasn't a forgettable film. Visually it is one of the most stunning pieces of art from the early 1990s that Academy Award nominated director Barry Levinson ceated. A visual and artistic feast for the eyes especially those who saw it very young when it first came out in 1992. Perhaps due to the fact that it was a PG-13 rated film with lots of innuendo and violence caused parents to keep their young ones away from seeing it feeling that a film that was actually titled Toys, was incredibly misleading and it's actual representation of toys was shown of that which were created by a military man to show the possibility of causing destruction using children's toys. Little did they know what kind of ideas this would give the creators of social media and/or handheld phones in the future, but I digress. The Blu-ray created by Showtown Apparel and More is absolutely exquisite. The high definition presentation of the film is world's over better than the original 2002 DVD release, which ironically now fetches a hefty price of will over $100 due to being out of print. Although I understand that a Region 2 or Region 4 DVD release occurred some three or four years ago. This Blu-ray is an incredibly packed treasure trove of some nice interviews dug up from the stars of the film as well as director Barry Levinson, it also features some nice heartfelt tribute video clips from Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg, as well as a hidden Easter Egg which offers a very nice tribute to Robin and his career. The only reason I did not give it a full five stars was for the fact that some of the other features for the original DVD were not included such as alternate Theatrical Trailers and TV Spots but that is a small loss compared to what else is actually included on this Blu-ray. I am again so very happy and grateful that this website exists to allow the wonderful preservation of some childhood favorites of mine and there will be much more future orders from this website!
