    Star Wars despecialized

Posted by Matthew Janovic on Sep 19th 2021

I saw Star Wars at the age of nine at the Forum Cinema here in South Bend, IN when it was released, the summer of 1977, ten times. Like a lot of my generation, I know this movie like the back of my hand. It is the "family dog," I know it so well. I haven't gotten to see this version without George Lucas's poorly thought out additions and changes to this, the original, albeit a "reconstruction." It may be that, but THIS is the motion picture I saw as a kid, exactly, with all the visual details and very impressive audio. A perfect historical document as a video, this is the real Star Wars. With luck, the little elves and fairies will be bringing out THX-1138, The Rain People (1970, Coppola), and the original version of Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant (1992) with Schooly-D's "Signifying Rapper" and other musical cues reinstated. No complaints.

T The original film the way that it was meant to be seen. Beautiful presentation and package.
