    The Beatles Get Back Blu-Ray

Posted by Joe Comer on Jan 18th 2022

A most fascinating documentary!! The nearly 60 hours of footage that Michael Lindsay-Hogg shot of the fab four during the month of January in 1969 is beautifully beautifully presented here. Totaling nearly eight hours, this limited series is presented in three parts and is splendidly edited to include some of the best moments from the 'Get Back'/'Let It Be' sessions. Unlike many documentaries, it is highly entertaining and informative. You really get a sense of "being there" as you see John, Paul, George and Ringo take newly written material and fashion them into full-fledged songs. Besides the tunes from the album that came from those sessions, you also see the beginnings of some great future Beatles music like 'Polyethylene Pam', 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer', 'Something' and 'Octopus's Garden' which would all appear on "Abbey Road" when it was released during the last half of the year. There's even a brief excerpt from 'Another Day' which would be one of Paul's hits after the Beatles split up. Of course, the highlight of this epic work is the rooftop concert. For the first time we see that classic performance in its entirety. The last time the quartet would perform publicly together, it is given a brilliant showcase using all the shots and angles the several strategically placed cameras would provide. Borrowing the split screen technique used to such great advantage in music documentaries like WOODSTOCK, you again get the sense that you are right there amid all the wonder that the concert provided. Included on this disc is LET IT BE, the original eighty minute 1970 film made from the footage. You also get interviews and the trailer for the series. "The Beatles Get Back" has been carefully and thoughtfully transferred to Blu-Ray and the 1080 HD resolution is perfect here. The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is also used to great advantage. The best part is the price. Before buying this version, I did a lot of shopping. I found that the cost for other copies ranged from around $40.00 to around $60.00 and more. This release costs just shy of $30.00. You have the option to get free shipping. Since there is no sales tax, it's a grand deal. You just can't go wrong buying this M.O.D. (Made On Demand) disc. One final word: I've never been a fan of streaming. Once the announcement was made that this documentary would be on Disney+, I knew if I wanted to watch it, I would have to buy it on disc. Imagine my joy when I found this particular release at such an affordable price. Now I can watch it anytime I want. Buy this disc!! You won't be disappointed!! -Joe Comer
